More California wine consumed

The San Francisco Business Journal reports:
"More people are drinking wines made or owned by companies in California, according to a report on wine consumption"

Total wine consumption went up 1 percent in the United States to 231 million cases, and about half the wine consumed was from 21 brands, according to pre-published research from the 2002 edition of "The U.S. Wine Market: Impact Databank Review and Forecast."

Those 21 brands brands include:
· Franzia- box wine owned by The Wine Group in San Francisco.
· Gallo Livingston Cellars
· Sutter Home- by Trinchero Family Estates in St. Helena.
· Woodbridge- owned by Robert Mondavi, Inc.
· E & J Gallo Vineyards
· Almaden- with their Bag-in-the-Box.
· Beringer- based in Napa.
Each brand sold at least 6 million cases in 2001. About 6,500 brands are sold in the U.S. wine market.
