Grape Pricing this Year
More evidence of grape prices going down this year due to a surplus of grapes.
Adam Lee from Siduri Wines posted yesterday that Napa Valley Chardonnay prices are bottoming out and Sonoma Pinot may be next. He said,
[Since] a portion of the grapes are uncommited this year and no one seems to be interested... the growers would take $500 per ton in a heartbeat and probably $300. At the same time, some wineries are getting the same grapes at over $2000 per ton as they are locked into contracts.The growers were speculating that the next market to crash will be Sonoma County Pinot Noir. There is something like 4000 acres of Pinot producing in Sonoma but another 3000 will produce first crops this year or next. Personally, we are getting offered grapes like they are going out of style.
