Vineyard Visit: Teldeschi Zin

On Sunday, Kiara and I went up to Hotel Healdsburg to decompress, detox, and possibly intox after our epic 3 Day Wedding weekend.

Monday we went to visit Ray Teldeschi, a grape source of my Zinfandel. I wanted to check up on the vineyard to see how the grapes are doing and how last week's heat wave impacted the grapes.

Key take aways:

  • Last week's 3 days of 105+ degree temperature caused sun damage.

  • Uneven verasion (i.e. grapes changing color from green to red)is occuring. The grapes that are red now will be raisins by harvest. Uneven ripening is chararcteristic of Zinfandel.

  • According to Ray, the harvest is about 1.5 months away and should be fast and furious. Not prolonged like last year.

  • Moderate to light fruit load this year.

  • Some 'hens and chicks' on clusters were caused by northern winds and a rain during bloom.

Ray invited Kiara and I up anytime to check in on the grapes and take photos. No need to sign 'Model Release Forms' for the grapes.
