Pinot: Sources for 2002

Last Friday, I spoke to Al at Dutton Ranch about getting some of their coveted Pinot Noir.
He offered fruit from:

  • Morelli Lane Vineyard (Occidental, CA)
Located east of the small Russian River Valley town of Occidental, the Morelli Lane Vineyard is truly remarkable. The vineyard sits high on the western edge of Green Valley, enjoying both an abundance of sunshine and cool ocean breezes. The flavor profile is prominent raspberry and strawberry. Has different clones: Beringer-- which was a field selection and provides depth; and 115 which provides the red berry fruit profile. Wineries that get grapes are: Alderbrook; DuMol; Dutton-Goldfield; and Sebastopol Vineyards

  • Thomas Vineyard
Which I was less interested in because it has only 1 clone. I speculate that this is the same Robert Thomas Vineyard that J Wine makes a single vineyard designate. In the western Russian River Valley, the vines are nestled between the valley and hillside. It is a cool location, offering slow ripening and long hang time.

The price is moderate to high for such sought after grapes.
