Glassy Winged Sharpshooter Spottings Decrease
Yesterday's Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports that Sharpshooter season ends with fewer finds than in 2001. At high level, Sonoma remains free of the glassy-winged sharpshooter. An intensive seven-month trapping and inspection program has protected the region’s more than 120,000 acres of vineyards.
Mendocino, Lake, Napa and Marin counties also remain free of the sharpshooter, a half-inch-long leaf hopper that spreads the bacterium that causes Pierce’ disease, an incurable and fatal plague of grapevines.
