After the successful 2001 and 2002 vintages, Ray Teldeschi (not to be confused with the Teldeschi winery) said I "graduated" to his coveted ~120 year old vines. These highly prized, head pruned vines are the Home Ranch portion of the vineyard. Our block sits directly across from the block that Mike Officer from Carlisle (site - vineyard description) gets.

This zinfandel is our best yet. Blueberry, blackberry cobbler, mulled spices, cinnamon explode from the glass. Four percent Petit Sirah is icing on the cake providing pepper and spice. It is a graceful, balanced, and some have said, epic...

  • "Medium to dark garnet in the glass this wine has a thick nose of unusual aromas including stewed prunes, blackberries, caramel and grilled fat. In the mouth it is sumptuous and dark with amazing depth, and again some unusual and slightly elusive flavors centered around blackberry. The other flavors range from burnt sugar to smoke to a sort of roasted fig flavor. Short story: this is not your typical old vine zinfandel, but one that has its own, very distinct personality. When I first tasted the wine, my reaction was that it was cooked, but as I tasted it again, I realized that was far from the case, and what I was experiencing was just a very different Zinfandel. Score: 9/9.5" (out of 10) Alder Yarrow, Vinography.com

  • The Story Behind the Wine

Each year the vines go through a journey from bud break to harvest. The older the vines, the harder they have to work... but what they produce is more concentrated and have more to say. Anything coming from 120 years old is heroic in my book. This is The Hero’s Journey.

    Production: 70 cases.

  • The Vineyard

Over a hundred years ago, Italian immigrants drove wagons into Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County, California. Immediately, they planted the rolling hillsides with what was reminded them of home—grapes.

Ray Teldeschi's ancestors were no exception. Over the past 60 years, his family has become renowned grape growers selling to some of the most prestigious Zinfandel producers.
